Luck of the Irish

I had one of the luckiest (sort of) days yet on Friday.

1. Got my free ice coffee from the bike cart. This falls under the "sort of" luck category since they have frequent buyer cards, so when you buy ten coffees your next is free. Admittedly, it was time for my free coffee. However, if you're a regular and you actually smile before they hand you the coffee, sometimes you get lucky and they cross off a few spots on your card for you.

Upgraded to a large. Boom, as my brother would say.

2. Speaking of my brother, it's time to brag: Kid is going to Georgetown for his Masters! This also is in the category of luck that is not really luck. He is a big smartypants. Congratulations, little one!

3. Okay, so this is where the luck comes in. Some of you may remember that last year, I had quite the run-in, getting pooped on by a bird for the fifth time in my relatively short life. Well, last Friday was very similar to that Friday, where I was walking along, sipping my delicious coffee and listening to Pandora. This time, directly in front of me - SPLAT! - mere inches from my foot lands the almost-but-not-quite sixth bird poop of my life.

I stopped short. Look up. (Why is that my reaction? There could be remaining danger, I mean, birds!) Look down. Fist pump with a solid, "Yes!"

Victory - the count remains at five... for now.

4. Found a dollar on  my way home. Totally lucky.

News stories like this one about Kenya's teacher shortage continue to perk up my ears and put strain on my heart, but I might just be settling back into Boston life these days. (And what a proud day it is!)
